Why Hawkshead?

Relationship

Although your project involves technology at some level, the real progress begins and ends with people.

From the outset, the ability to communicate with ease and form a meaningful trust is paramount. There is a great deal of commitment on both sides and very often degrees of trust are required.

We understand the process of design and will happily explain its relevance to your project. You are welcome to scrutinise us to make sure that we are everything that we say and that you want.

When considering any design project it is useful to know:
  • Who controls it? - You, as client, or the design outfit... is the dialogue steeped in technical terms so as to create a smoke screen...
  • Is there transparency in what is being done and why and how much it costs?
  • Are the quotations fixed price?
  • Who owns the design once complete? (Are there any royalties or other lien?)

Boundaries

Your project may involve work that is carried out by you or people with whom you have worked before. Projects can be based purely on a circuit board design. More often than not, our clients want a product.

Every design has its own special requirements. There is an obvious case for boundaries to describe areas of work or how two parts fit together. Less obvious are the areas that fit no particular category.

If the design team "stops at the edge of the board", then how do you resolve issues relating to its ability to be manufactured? What do you do when the designer of the metal fabrication wants to know about the heat generated from the electronics?

You may be pleased to know that many years of experience do not "stop at the edge of the board". Practicality, hands-on experience and the ability to traverse industries and apply the solutions mean that your project can be defined with boundaries but not limited by them.

Name, logo and ethos

“The choosing of our company name was obvious. "Hawkshead Designs" is taken from a combination of two surnames - Hawkins and Hollinshead.

A Hawkshead conjured up the mighty bird of prey - a creature that will stop at nothing until its task is completed. Hawk, from the Native American world, describes the bird as a messenger with strength, truth and foresight.

The logo is a Native American symbol of the butterfly. Their translation for this wondrous insect is rebirth, the soul, transformation and everlasting. This logo would seem to express (as well as my love for the butterfly) everything that our company is about.

The business is a transformation, if you like. A rebirth built on a foundation of strength, truth and possibly a smidgen of foresight.”
